February Featured artists 2015

Artist: Mia Kolpin
Title: Vessels, Urchins, Eruptions, Unworldly
Medium: Hand blown glass
Venue: 27 Deakin Cafe

This body of work came from an amazing demonstration where glass was manipulated in the hot shop beginning as a vessel. A section of the vessel was heated and the glass was blown to cause a ‘blow out’ effect. Such amazing fun and the unpredictability of what the end result would be was both terrifying and captivating.

Artist: Fletcher Heagerty

Medium: Drawing/Installation
Venue: Premier Art Supplies

A child prodigy or Wunderkid is a person who, at an early age develops one or more skills at a level far beyond the norm for their age. A prodigy has to be a child, or at least younger than 18 years who is performing at the level of a highly trained adult in a very demanding field of endeavor.

Artist: Douglas Lemon
Title: Dragon fly
Medium: copper foil, Aluminium and glass melded in a kiln
Venue: Chann & Naylor

Doug was born and raised in Mildura and I  fully qualified cabinet maker. He discovered his love of glass when he started lessons in Mildura with Max Robertson doing led lighting. After a move to the South West Coast, Doug attended classes with David Hobday in Queenscliff and found a new passion for glass melding. He particularly likes to experiment with different mediums and glass, including Aluminum and copper.
New pieces under development are occasional tables made from stainless steel, old hardwood timber and glass.
