Steve Mars

Steve has been playing at being an artist since mid 2007. Prior to that he was better known a local government planner, the reason he moved to Sunraysia in 1999.
He is actually a Tasmanian where, as well as being known as  planner since the late 1970’s, he would however like to believe he is also remembered as a Viet Vo martial artist, drummer and tennis player.
In 2012 he completed his Visual Arts Degree via the Mildura Campus of La Trobe University and is currently undertaking his honours year. He also has a Bachelor of Arts (UTas 1970) and Post Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning(UNE 1978)
When not at uni he can usually be found at his gallery, the Darling River Bank Gallery,  a gallery at his and Maggie’s house in their old bank, on the banks of the Darling River, in Darling Street, Wentworth. If he is actually known for any art, it is probably for his ute dogs, motorbikes and other machinery.
While currently dabbling in the use of flat glass as an art material he hopes in the fullness of time to be known predominantly as a landscape artist  (drawings and painting) who also enjoys printmaking, not forgetting the dogs and machinery, of course.
He is also a very lucky “Stroke Survivor” who would like to believe that others may take some encouragement from what he has been able to achieve since his event. That said, there is usually some new/old? challenge to which he aspiring.

Reflections of the Glass Cube
When I made my glass cube it was to reflect my thoughts, or so I would like you to believe. Since then it has taken on a life of its own, I have no longer any idea the thoughts it is reflecting.
The cube, along with the square, the rectangle, the triangle, the circle ,and the sphere we tend to take for granted they are so much part of our lives.
Similarly, glass and mirror glass are such amazing materials, but again something we rarely spend any time enjoying for their own sake. Somehow they are just there, doing what they do for us to enjoy something else.
With my glass cube I would like you, the viewer to contemplate these elements, the wonder of the material, the seeming simplicity of the shapes and dimensions and that the reflections you are experiencing are yours only.

  1. This is a very stylish page but I don't think it is what I am looking for. Where is the Tasmanian reference?
