Artist statement

An eclipse is a type of syzygy. In astronomy, a syzygy (from the Ancient Greek suzugos meaning “yoked together”) is a straight-line configuration of three celestial bodies in a gravitational system.

Using found objects to create this sculpture, l was inspired by the radiating, hypnotic effect of the woven reed mats. When these objects are centred, they seem to have a gravitational pull of their own, resulting in an eclipse that embodies the mystery of the power of alignment.
